Berjaya Times Square dealers

This is a Berjaya Times Square coin dealers list. Berjaya Times Square KL is a twin tower complex containing a shopping centre and two five star hotels located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It was opened in October 2003 by the then Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad. Both towers are 203 metres (666 ft) tall, with 48 floors and with 7.5 million square feet (700,000 m²) of built up floor area. It offers shopping, luxury accommodation, business, food and entertainment. Currently, it has space for more than 1,000 retail shops, 1,200 luxury service suites, 65 food outlets to suit many tastes and entertainment attractions.

How do you go to Berjaya Times Square? If you came from KLIA, you can go to KL Sentral using ERL (Express Rail Link). In KL Sentral, there is many public transportation that you can find. If you're using taxi, just asked them to go to Berjaya Times Square Mall, the fare should be around RM10. You can also walk a little bit, go find a Monorail and buy a ticket to Plaza Imbi, the fare will be around RM2.00. This Building is near the Bukit Bintang area. Its should be no problem asking people where is this building situated since this is one of Kuala lumpur major landmark.


They're three shop in this building. A suggestion from me, if you want to go to this shop, you better go after 3pm. Most of the owner will only open their shop at that time and closed around 7pm. Called them first to check if they open during your visit. I only manage to meet two of the shop owners during this visit but their working time are almost similar. All of the shops are at 7th floor and open everyday (including Sunday) from 2pm to 8pm.

No more Heritage Hotel Money Fair

U.S Agency recently told me, they will not held any Money and Stamp Fair at Heritage Station Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. This is because of high rental rates and the place currently doing some renovation work. You can find them every Saturday and Sunday at Amcorp Mall Flea market in Petaling Jaya. Mr. Govin from U.S Agency told me that they had stop doing fair at that place for many months now.

Amcorp Mall flea market open on Saturday and Sunday; from 9.00 am until 5.00 pm. The flea market of Amcorp Mall located in the mall at the lower ground and the 1st floor. The Amcorp Mall is situated at Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia. Located opposite the Taman Jaya LRT station which is served by the Kelana Jaya Line, operated by Rapid KL. It is also located in the proximity of the Petaling Jaya Hilton Hotel and the Armada Hotel. This is one of the flea market recommended by most collector for antique, coin, vintage and collectibles item.

Seniman Agung P.Ramlee Medallion

Thank you very much to everyone who has been calling, asking and giving information about this coins. I had a none stop called by P.Ramlee fans (From Kuantan, Sabah and even from Singapore), asking for the details of the coin and where to get them. Othman Abdullah, the CEO of KL Mint contact me by email and give some information regarding this medallion and KL Mint. Wisma Merdeka coin dealer

A reader told me that he will be going to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah for a vacation and want to know where he can find coin dealer in Kota Kinabalu. Wisma Merdeka is the best place if you want to find coin dealer. At the moments, there are three coin dealers shop in there. Most of them sell antiques, chinaware, banknotes, coins and stamps. I already been dealing with some of them for over 5 years now. Last time, there are at least five dealer shops but I am not sure what happen to them. If you're looking for Sarawak and Sabah (North Borneo) collection, this is the best place to find but you need to asked them. Some of them will not display their nice uncirculated collection for sell.

How can you find this coin dealers? First, you need to find Wisma Merdeka. Wisma Merdeka is at jalan Tun Razak. You can find Hyatt Regency Kinabalu Hotel and Capital Hotel near Wisma Merdeka. If you're coming from Likas using Tun Fuad Stephen street, you can see the building at your right, beside Kinabalu college. In Wisma Merdeka, you need to look for Familia Store (at the end of the building, on first and second floor). You need to go up on second floor and look for Total stationery shop. All the coin dealer shops are around that stationery shop.

I found some small antique shops in Kota Kinabalu before but they're not focusing on banknote and coins like what you can find at this shops in Wisma Merdeka. The small shops price are higher then Market price and not worth sharing about them here.

Where is Steven Tan coin shop?

One Question people keep on asking me is where is Steven Tan shop? How to go there? I already in Pertama Complex but I cannot find his shop? At least once a week I will receive this kind of question from friends or my blog reader asking for the same question. To anyone who is still new to stamp or coins collecting, Steven Tan is the Managing Director of International Stamp & Coin Sdn Bhd. He born in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan in 1938. He started dealing in stamps since 1960 and coins around 10 years later.

If you came from KLIA, you can go to KL Sentral using ERL (Express Rail Link). In KL Sentral, there is many public transportation that you can find. If you want to walk a little bit, go find a Monorail and buy a ticket to Medan Tunku, the fare will be around RM2.00. You can also go there using KTM Komuter and buy a ticket to Bank Negara, the fare should be around RM2.00.
Just look for SOGO Shopping Complex (Pertama Complex is just beside this building) upon your arrival or asked people around. To anyone who already in Kuala Lumpur, you can go there using STAR LRT and buy a ticket to Bandaraya.

Upon your arrival in Pertama complex, you can see a Levi's Boutique, find a stairs on your right, please don't use the escalator. Just go forward and going up twice (2 Stairs), until you see Uncle Win Restaurant, his shop is just beside it. They normally open during office hour. Monday to Saturday from 9.30 am until 4pm. Sunday and Public Holidays from 10am until 1pm. When I visit their shop last week, I asked for Standard Catalogue of Malaysia, Singapore & Brunei Coin & Paper Money 19th edition. They say The Catalogue will be publish in June 2010. That mean the price of coins and banknote will be going up after that Steven Tan new book Published.

Less item higher price?

What happen if you got less item to sale? Higher price? I am on my usual hunting trip to Penang recently. Most of my frequent reader know by now that one of my main source of collection come from money changer. Penang is a money changer heaven since there are so many changer premises you can find along Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling, Chulia Street, in KOMTAR building or almost at any part of the city. You need to click picture below to see what I meant by over price item. Almost all money changer along Chulia street and Masjid Kapitan Keling street are putting a ridiculous price on their item. When asked about their price, their reply is that they receive less supply but many people who coming to Penang are looking for it.

One day, this will be a normal scenario for banknote and coin collector like me. When I started my first job in Penang 10 years ago, there are so many great collections at a very affordable price. I can buy them and sell them the same day with fifty percent profit. After feeling disappointed with the high price item in almost every money changer shop, I am taking a walk to Esplanade Road (Jalan Padang Kota Lama). Luckily, Penang also famous for its foods and historical@pre-war building to keep me busy.

The walk bring me to Penang Municipal Council building, Penang City Hall. This building built in 1903 in the typical British Palladian architectural style, the building has been listed as a national monument since 1982 under the Antiquities Act 1976. It is a two-storey building believed specifically built to house council/municipal offices in the early days. It was built at a cost of 100,000 Straits Dollars. It currently houses the Penang Municipal Council Chambers and two departments – the Licensing and the Urban Services departments. The Municipal Council of George Town was established in 1857, the first local authority in Malaya after Singapore.

I then walk around Light Street, near Esplanade road area. There are many prewar building building in that area; State Assembly hall, Fort Cornwallis, Penang war memorial, Penang High Court, State assembly building, and other early government building in Penang. Light street named after the famous Captain Francis Light. Padang Kota also famous for its hawker centre and popular waterfront promenade.

Most new collector nowadays, collect numismatic item just for investment. I don't mind about high price as long as the item is in high quality. But low grade items at a high price is ridicilious. Just make sure you are not buying something like this if you on a hunting trip to Penang. If the numismatic item is on a high price, go to Penang cheap and delicious nasi kandar instead. That make me forget about my unsuccessful hunting trip for a while.

Jonker Street Melaka

If you're coming To Malaysia and looking for a historic place to visit, Melaka is one of the must go state in Malaysia. There are many place of interest in Melaka. One of them is Jonker Street or also known as Jonker Walk. The name Jonker mean junk, referring to Chinese vessels. Jonker Street once known for its Chinese Clan house. Most of the building in this street is dated in the early part of the 20th century. Nowadays, Jonker Street also known as Jalan Hang Jebat because of a tomb (makam) of Malacca warrior, Hang Jebat they renamed it Jalan Hang Jebat. But most people still prefer to call it Jonker Street.

I can not see any Malacca hotel along Jonker Street. Maybe because my eyes a bit busy looking at antique and souvenir on display in shop houses along this street. Most of the shops in here are selling tin coins from Melaka coinage. The only problem for me is that the price ain't that cheap. Most of the shop selling price is double then what I can get from other places in Malaysia. It sound a bit ridiculous for collector like me but this is a place for tourist, most probably the seller just want to take extra profit. Almost any antique shop in Malaysia will be selling their item a bit higher then market price. Make sure you knew how much is the market price for your item before you're buying from any antique shop or you will need a laser eye surgery after buying from those antique shop because of the high price tag.

One of the shop that attract me the most is Gold Moon Coins & Curios Trading shop. Almost all the shop front are full with a display of old coin. Most of them are from Melaka Coinage. I can see Animal tin money, Malacca sultanate coin, Chinese tin cash, Dutch East Indies coin and Portuguese tin coins. Some of the coin is a rare coin, including Straits Settlements 1883H 10 cents on sale for RM3,800.00. A 1908 King Edward Straits Settlements one dollar coin on sale in here for a whopping RM400.

Other then antique, paper money, stamps and coins, you can find many shop selling souvenir. You can found wood-craved statues, decorative item for your house, fashionable clothes, key chain, beautiful wind chimes made by sea shell and photo frame. Most people coming in here buying a wooden clogs made by wood and painted with striking flowery pattern. If you're tired searching for souvenirs, there are many cafes, restaurants and stalls selling local delicacies such as Chicken rice ball, curry noodles, assam fish, cendol, dodol and many mouth watering food that you should try.

Malacca stamp & money fair 2009

This will be the last money and stamp fair held in Malaysia this year. Malacca stamp & money fair held from 25 to 27 December 2009 at Malacca Famous Jonker Street. It is held in a Hainan Clan House in Jalan Hang Jebat or famously known as Jonker Street or Jonker walk. Chinese clan associations are formed by Overseas Chinese based on dialect groups or same family names to look after their member's affairs and welfare. On my visit there on Saturday, only 6 dealers joining the Jonker stamp and money Fair. Some of them are regular seller from Kuala Lumpur.

First of all thanks for the invite by man without name to his hometown. Without him, I will most probably stranded in a bumper to bumper jammed along jalan Hang Jebat that day. Its a big holiday in Malaysia and Singapore, most people going to Melaka for a holiday. This is man without name new blog A fistful of ringgit. Wish you good luck on your blog. There is not much of thing happening in the fair that day. Accept from Mr. Govin (US Agency) who is eagerly participated in almost any money fair around Malaysia, not many people (collector) coming to this fair. Most probably because we where going a bit to early at around 10.30am. The Jonker Stamp and Money fair open from 9.30 am until 9.00 pm. According to man without name, most people will be coming to Jonker street during night time.

Some of the item that attract the most to me is this Malaysia one ringgit, Tan Sri Dato Seri Ali Abul Hassan Signature. Do you know how much this banknote price during this fair? It goes for a whooping RM1,700 for this extremely fine condition banknote. When I am visiting Amcorp Mall early this month, the price for almost the same quality banknote is just around RM1,000. This is certainly a good value for collector who want to invest and not collecting money for hobby. Another item that interest me is fossil stones. I am not a fan of fossil stones but I have seen some friends using them as amulets and decorative object. Do you know how old this GE (general electric) sewing Machine?

Other item on sale in here are mostly stamp, first day cover, world banknote, world coin and reference book for this hobby. I wish this fair will be held again next year with more dealer and a little bit more on advertisement. Without a friend help on telling me that a money fair will be held in Jonker street, I will never know about it.
