Largest 1Malaysia 10 sen logo

Yesterday, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) has made it to the Malaysia Book of Records by creating the largest 1Malaysia logo, using 10 sen coins. The project, which was implemented with the cooperation of the information department, started on Friday and was completed Sunday. The logo, measuring 25 metres x 13 metres, was made by 1,920 students on the university's Reserve Officers Training Unit marching field. Project director Mohd Hafiza Ahmad said they had collected 670,000 pieces of 10-sen coins from UUM students and staff, as well as public and private donors, for the project.

"Of the total, we only used 622,185 of the coins valued at RM62,218.50," he said after receiving the recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records here today.

In lauding the effort, Deputy Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum said it could bring university students of different races and cultures to work together to achieve a common goal.

"Thus, they have to understand the 1Malaysia concept so that untoward incidents that could shake public order could be prevented," he said.

Meanwhile, the last coin was placed yesterday by Information, Communication and Culture Deputy Minister Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum to complete the 1Malaysia logo. Last year in November 2009, 800 pre-schoolers from the Hulu Langat district successfully made the largest 1Malaysia logo with the 20 sen coins. The children and their teachers from 28 Tabika Perpaduan in the Hulu Langat district laid the 220,220 coins to make the logo in two hours. The children laid the coins on 71 separate polystyrene boards that were later assembled to form the complete 1Malaysia logo measuring 19.8m long and 12m wide. All of the money used in the project, came from their pocket money. The money then be deposited by Bank Rakyat into individual accounts under the children’s names.

I am not sure what they intended to do with the coins in 1Malaysia logo by UUM. Wish the money will go to charity. Maybe the reporter forget to asked. The 10 sen logo is the largest so far compare to last year 1Malaysia logo. It should also achieved largest one Malaysia logo using coins. Malaysia Book of Records is Malaysia own Guinness book of record.
