Happy New Year 2011
Happy New year 2011 to everyone. Wish everyone will achieve what they target for 2010 and a prosperous year in 2011. How about your 2010 new year resolution? Do you achieve it? One of my last year resolution is try to collect Malaysia gold coin. At first, I thought it will be hard to find any of the old coins and add it in my collection. I still can find cheap Malaysia gold commemorative with idea from few friends who has been in gold collecting for a very long time. Another one of my last year resolution is to collect more Straits Settlements paper money. I think this year, almost half of my collection budget go to Straits Settlements paper money.
Last year, when I go to Amcorp Mall Flea Market, I already saw young kids buying notes and coins for a collections. Most of them buying a cheap notes but its a good start. At least 2010 I can see youngster involved in this hobby of kings. Nowadays, its not cheap for young kids to start this hobby. Many of them prefer stamp collecting as a hobby because it is cheaper. While most of kids these days prefer playing with their portable electronic games.
For 2010, I also saw many Malaysia coin and Banknotes blogger start their new blog. I will try to update my Malaysia coin blog list later. I also saw some Singaporean blogger start to commenting in my blog. Thanks for the visit and comment to all my reader. Here is some of the blogs who are frequent commentator in this blog:
- A Fistful of Ringgit
- coinandbanknotes.blogspot
- why collect
- umihoney
- Sumandak Kinabalu
- mgmsabrinumismatik
- akucintamimi.blogspot
Sorry If i don't comment back in everyone blog. Please comment in this post if you think I missed any of my frequent commentator. Some of bloggers asked me if I can teach you on how to blog. Maybe we can arrange a meeting one day and I will help you. If you're interested just email me your phone number, we will set the time and place later.
To anyone who are still new in my blog. This blog already had over 550 articles with over 200 of them written by me. Most of the other article come from News website. All of my article basely about Malaysia coin and currency or numismatic news in Malaysia. You need to type what you're searching for in this blog search button since browsing this blog by month views will take you more time to find what you're looking for. Like what I always tell everyone, I am not an expert, just a collector like you who like to share what I know.
What do I looking for in 2011? I think 2011 target will be more on my personal life rather then my collections. As you can see in the recent months, I don't have time to write my article because I am busy with my personal life and works. I also had many unfinished article for 2010, maybe will try to publish them in 2011. Don't worry, even if I am busy, I will still try to keep this blog keep on going for another year.

Cheap Prom Dresses
Every girl gets excited by the time that their school announces that the prom night is just a couple of months away. Unfortunately, not everyone has enough money to buy for the most elegant looking prom dresses that are available in most couture shops. However, this should not be a reason to stop you from getting that dress for this memorable event. There are now cheap prom dresses that are not just cost-effective, but very glamorous at the same time.
In today's rough economy, young ladies are being forced to work within a budget when it comes time to buy a prom dress, new shoes and a pretty shawl. The steep prices being charged at the fancy boutiques in local malls and shopping centers are simply too high to afford for most girls your age. Perhaps you are interested in buying a knock-off dress that looks exactly like what Paris Hilton and other Hollywood celebs are wearing on the red carpets. You can fulfill that dream of yours by going online and searching under cheap prom dresses.
This means that not only will you be able to afford the exact dress you have had your eye on but you also will be able to pick up those new shoes, stockings, shawl, purse and any accessories you need such as earrings or a new necklace to match your dress. There are dozens and dozens of online retailers that specialize in nothing but formal attire. This means that the prices are kept low because each of these retailers must directly compete with one another for your business.
You can always look for economical dress on the Internet. You have a wider choice since hundreds of websites are offering this kind of service and the competition is actually tight especially as the prom season comes. Aside from the inexpensive price, there are some websites that still offer discounts as well especially if you buy it a couple of months before the prom night. The best thing about the cheap prom dresses is that it is unlikely that you will see the same design on boutiques near you.

Cinderella Prom Dress
Cinderella prom dress can come in many different designs and styles each design has its own unique interest and detail. Every one of these dresses can have very different cuts and it is important to understand what figures they best suit. The bodices are designed to clinch the waist which gives an hour glass effect, emphasised by the full skirt giving the illusion of a tiny waist. The elegant fairytale effect of these dresses will turn the heads of any onlookers and with most styles being covered from top to bottom with lavish details and sparkles you will certainly set the scene for an unforgettable night.
The Cinderella prom dress with a dropped waist can improve you overall silhouette. The full skirt flows gracefully out from the hip line emphasizing your waist. If you choose this as a strapless design then you can dress up your bare shoulders with a lavish necklace or shoulder wrap. Remember to choose designs where the embellishment is concentrated around the body features you want to show off. Beading and sequins can draw the eyes in. so if you want people to look at you waist, make sure most of the details are in this area.
It must be every girls dream to dress up as their favourite fairytale character and recreate that adorable Princess look at their prom by wearing stunning and unforgettable Cinderella prom dresses, never before has a UK trend taken off so well as the prom. Although the US has been holding proms for their last year at school students for as long as I can remember it has never been deemed important over here in the UK.
Proms where thought to originate in the Victorian era when the younger generation was introduced in to the high society community. These parties where very lavish and the girls were dressed from head to toe in fine Cinderella prom dresses mostly made from white silk. The party back then was known as a promenade as the new society members were paraded around the party to meet the older members.

A suggestion for BNM Commemorative coin
These are some of my suggestion to Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) for commemorative coin that they should minted in the future. Why do I making this suggestion? Mostly because BNM produce low commemorative sets of design every year (only 3 this year, correct me if I am wrong). Some of their design is not even appealing to collectors. For me, some of the anniversary that they commemorate are not worth to collect. 125th Anniversary of Jabatan Ukur dan Pemetaan Malaysia (JUPEM) for example, its sound nice to educate public about the department contribution to Malaysia. But is it worth to put it on coins?
Here are some of my suggestion for BNM. I welcome everyone to add a suggestion of your own and wish any of the BNM design department people read this and consider them in our future collection:
1. 50th years of Zoo Negara.
Zoo Negara (literally National Zoo in Malay) will be 50 years old on 14 November 2013. It is the oldest zoo in this country and already visited by millions of Malaysian and tourist in this country. The park is managed by a non-governmental organization known as the Malaysian Zoological Society. The zoo located on 110 acres (45 ha) of land in Ulu Klang, near Taman Melawati, in north-east Kuala Lumpur.
2. Sabah Rafflesia flowers.
Do you know that there are 3 types of Rafflesia that can be found in Sabah:
i. Rafflesia keithii Meijer
ii. Rafflesia pricei Meijer
iii. Rafflesia tengku-adlinii Salleh & Latiff
Rafflesia is the official flower for Sabah. You can find and see Rafflesia flower at places such as Poring Hot Springs at the Kinabalu Park and Tambunan Rafflesia Reserve in Sabah.
3. Malaysia Prime Minister series.
Malaysia had gain independence since 31 August 1957. Until now, there are six people who had held the position of Malaysia Prime Minister (Perdana Menteri in Malay). Whenever there is a new appointment of a prime minister, BNM should mint a coin to commemorate that occasion. We don't get a new Prime Minister everyday, right? As what I write before, until know, there is no single coin with Tun Dr. Mahathir face on it.
4. Malaysia famous building.
We have many famous building that should be in BNM designs. Sultan Abdul Samad building for example is already over 116 years old and became the focus during the independence celebrations. It was here, the Union Jack flag was lowered and the Malayan flag hoisted for the first time at midnight on August 31, 1957. The Petronas Twin Towers (also known as the Petronas Towers or KLCC) are skyscrapers and twin towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. They were the tallest buildings in the world from 1998 to 2004 until surpassed by Taipei 101, but remain the tallest twin buildings in the world.
5. Malaysia Warriors- Dato Maharajalela, Mat Kilau, Rentap, Mat Salleh etc.
These countries also have many heroes@warriors who are involved with the independence of Malaysia. These freedom fighters should be put on coins
Dato Maharaja Lela was a Malay nationalist from Perak. Dato Maharaja Lela was a leader who later led the struggle against the British in Perak. He is famous for his planned to assassinate James Wheller Woodfird Birch (JWW Birch), the British Resident of Perak. Birch was killed on 2 November 1875 by Dato Maharaja Lela and his assistant Sepuntum in Pasir Salak.
Rentap or Libau (died 1863) was a famous Iban warrior in Sarawak during the Brooke White Rajah era. Rentap rebellion was due to the James Brooke's action of eliminating the Ibans in Skrang because he thought they were pirates.
Datu Muhammad Salleh or better known as Mat Salleh is famous for a series of major disturbances in North Borneo, now the Malaysian state of Sabah, from 1894 to 1900. The rebellions started when British North Borneo Company imposing a new rules on the Sugud River region; taxes and the requirement for the keris and boat licences.

One of big problem for collector in Malaysia, everytime there is a new commemorative sets come into market, there are not enough gold coins for small buyer like me. Even if BNM minted 500 gold sets for that design, most of the time only few sets can be bought directly from BNM. BNM should make sure an equal right for everyone. Selling them directly to big time buyer directly without regulations is just making the rich became richer. BNM should try minted a color coin with an attractive design in the future. The engraver, designer and mint of the coins should also be included in the Technical Specification of BNM collection. This is just a suggestion and my personal views.
What do you think?
